Ed Devane and Conor Hinfey (Kachanski) co-founded Second Square to None in 2008 in order to give ambient and odd styles of music a chance to be heard. While many genres of music were played at SSTN events, due to the fact that the first 8 gigs were held on Sunday afternoons a loose aesthetic emerged. Music that wouldn't suit being played in a nightclub or traditional live venue found a home at SSTN events.
Setting up a blog and recruiting Chris Flynn (Euphiophone) on graphic design and blogmaster duties, SSTN soon became recognised as an alternative and antidote to the heaviness of weekend club nights. Ed's role in SSTN is that of curator and creative director. Booking venues and acts, co-ordinating promotion via fliers and more recently Facebook, Devane is involved in every aspect of running SSTN. Highlights of Ed's SSTN activity include initiating and managing the Ten Second Rule project, and initiating and overseeing the SSTN Noise Series, a weekly MP3 and interview feature showcasing loosely-termed "noise" music being made in Ireland.
SSTN exists now mainly as a label, only releasing music the staff find worthy of it!
